Comments: OK, while Ken and Lonnie are busy making changes to the website, I'm going to take Ian up on his offer and begin to create the stories "Where Are They Now?" If any one else would like to contribute an update of their 'life' along with a few photos, we welcome that. Your contributions are what keep your old buddies checking in. And although I can't make your stories sound any better than they are, I can make them look good. Kind of a re-visiting of Shilobrat News .... Wow! that was a few years ago !! OK Ian, I'm sending you and email. Get your STUFF together.
Comments: It sounds pretty heated, but it isn't what it seems. We began the new ShiloBrats website with a committee of ten, with input from everyone, and as Doug Jordan so aptly described the process then ... a camel is a horse designed by a committee, but in the end we designed a pretty good horse. The horse went to pasture, but the pasture was of a limited size with a fence surrounding it. One of the first things we did was to increase the size of the pasture, but we didn't move the fence. Other developments went into the new pasture, but the fence still restricted growth of the original pasture. Part of our exchange has been how to expand this within the standards the site is built on, and it has generated a new model we are now working on for the expansion.
Think of the web site as an encyclopedia of Shilo through the eyes of a kid having lived there. There is an order to the information, and we always know where to find it. When new content becomes available, it should be able to fit into that order with a comfortable continuity. We haven't been able to do that with the current design, and that will now be solved with the new model. It won't look a lot different, but will be set up for organized growth. There is a lot of work to do, and it will be implemented in stages, there will be notifications, and ShiloBrats will continue to grow in an organized manner.
Don't you just love it when something put together with a lot of love and effort and then maintained by years by volunteers suddenly comes under allegations and outright attack. I understand some of the frustrations but shooting the people who keep the website going is hardly a productive solution.
What is needed to revitalize the website? Some suggestions could include a "where are they now?" component and some current photos to go along with it. Easy to say as that requires people to take some time and effort. Or we could see a page on "What happened since you left Shilo?" I would be interested in hearing how some of my team and class mates have made out on life's journey and their challenges along the way.
Faye, I pledge to assist the site with a donation to look at programming or set up changes. Let me know what you may have in mind and how I can help. I also promise to send in an example of where are they now? to see how it goes over. Of course, I am not promising either enthrallment or entertainment but I am sure we can get interesting contributions from the ShiloBrat crowd that might even reignite old friendships.
And Bill - you are far from alone in preferring the website to Facebook and there is surely room for both!
Ian

Comments: Who is D? Is it really necessary, D, to enlist a pseudonym to post a criticism on the guestbook? Why not just give your name, like everyone else does?
Comments: Faye - it is available on itunes. It is a good read.

Comments: Wow Lynn, that is great news!! I must get this shilobrat's book; it sounds so interesting! Come to think of it.... one of our 60s shilobrats, Greg Greene, has written three novels, two of which I have read. They are (still hopefully) available on Amazon.com.

Comments: Well said Faye!...I think sometimes we 'Shilo Brats' have to be reminded that the team who work to keep this web site running are VOLUNTEERS...they do an amazing job but need us to contribute to the site from time to time to keep it fresh. So here goes...just to let you know that my friend Shilo Brat Micheal Pond has written a book 'Couch of Willingness' and has also just given an interview on BT Vancouver about his book and his incredible journey from the depths of despair to a happy life...you might want to check it out.

Comments: Hey Doug, thanks for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it. Interesting that you say 'idyllic and peaceful'. Carol Ann also mentioned that the people look happy. I think they are. At least the African baby is HAPPIER than our babies (though he doesn't know it!) because he/she comes out of the womb and goes straight onto mama's back and on a back he'll stay for most of his time before starting to walk. Our babies go into plastic baby beds and get to eat out of plastic bottles and often go off to be raised by some other woman they have no connection with so mum can go to work to make money to ....... Well, I don't really know but I'm interested in going back to find out more about THAT way of life.
