A big, sincere "Wow!" and thanks to the Team for the development of the excellent "Life Was Calling" and "Teacher" features!

I will try to contribute any little memories of the teachers as they come to mind, with a caveat that the memories may be getting a bit "fuzzy" over the eons!

Mr. Rumball: as stated, having Mr. Rumball as Home Room teacher in Grade 11 was akin to spending every day with Will Shakespeare himself. He was such a kind and gentle man, with many interesting previous life experiences before arriving in Shilo.

However, one day he was none too pleased with a certain student in the class (namely, Mr. Don Jordan) who took the liberty of reciting several paragraphs of Macbeth in a manner such that Mick Jagger would have been proud! Mr. Rumball was indeed a unique personality!

Put Shakespeare in the classroom and you have Mr. Rumball, a grade 10, 11 & 12 English teacher with theatrical flair. Every day was a play for him, every word, every move was done with theatrical style. He called every student Ms. or Mr. with your last name. "Mr. Turner, why are you late again!" and the amazing thing is, he was 75 years old when he did it.

Check out the new Teacher Feature in the Gallery and tell us what you remember about Mr. Rumball?

Our teachers are indelible, they remain in our memory forever, and some of us will remember every teacher we ever had. Some teachers we just passed through, and once in a while there would be one that struck gold with us, one who wasn't just another day to get through, one who gave that stretch of life called "growing up" some inspiration.

One of those teachers was Mr. Ivan Traill. Many of us just called him "Coach". As the Physical Education teacher at PEHS in the early 60's, he taught and coached all of our sports activities, Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Track & Field and Gymnastics, then later taught Biology and Geography in high school and became Principal of PEHS for 1967& 68 before moving to Neepawa, where he still lives today.

What is your favorite memory of Mr. Traill.

Going through the middle grades to get to high school, you likely had to pass through Mr. Crandle, Grade nine at PEHS in the 60's, and Greenwood classes in the 70's.

Mr. Harvey McGhie, A teacher everyone would remember, he was always there. He began teaching in Shilo in the 1940's at The Hut, which later became the clubhouse for the golf course, then at PEPS, Princess Elizabeth Public School when it opened in 1951, then over to Greenwood, where he became Principal. Harvey particated in the entertainment scene in early Shilo in a band called The Jay Dees and the annual Variety Shows in the 60's. Mr. Harvey McGhie still lives in Brandon and has donated his photo collection of his teaching years in Shilo, which covers four decades, to ShiloBrats.com. You may also remember his son Gerald McGhie as a student there.

What do you remember about Mr. McGhie, visit the Gallery for our daily teacher snapshot.

In PEHS 1964, students didn't move from class to class, you had a home room and only the teachers moved between periods. When Mr.McKay came into our Grade 11 class for French period, he found that someone had stapled the pages of his textbook together. The initial giggles over this didn't help as he became determined to find out who did this. It was the last class before lunch, there was no instruction, the class was in detention for the whole period and no one was going home untill there was a confession. The stalemate continued untill 12:30 when he finally let everyone out without a resolution, but was to be continued after 4pm. It turned out a Grade 12 student had snuck in during recess and did the dirty deed without anyone knowing. After hearing about it, he felt bad about the resulting situation (not the stapling of pages) and confessed to let the class off the hook. That afternoon Mr. McKay made a formal apology to the class.
