I was thinking the same thing Paige when I read Peggy's post ... boy did it hit the nail on the head and bring back some great memories. The speargrass (made for some wicked, and painful games), the Guess Who concert at Strange Hall (I was there and remember Burton Cummings with no shirt, long hair playing the piano ... and some of the more "conservative" fathers in the crowd getting up and leaving in disgust. Still remember the "purple" prairies when the crocuses were blooming, even before all the snow was melted, and it's been years since I've heard the beautiful song of the Western Meadowlarks out on the prairies ... there's nothing quite like it.

Re: "I remember waking up on Kingston Ave with the bright prairie sun and the fields full of crocuses across the street. The fresh smell of the pig farm. While attending grade school I remember a kid with a long red/white striped touque who licked the fence in the winter - the teacher had to bring a cup of hot water to get his tongue off the fence."

All I have to do is change the name of the street, and THAT is the Shilo I remember...perfectly stated, and it brought a smile to my face Peggy.

I remember waking up on Kingston Ave with the bright prairie sun and the fields full of crocuses across the street. The fresh smell of the pig farm. While attending grade school I remember a kid with a long red/white striped touque who licked the fence in the winter - the teacher had to bring a cup of hot water to get his tongue off the fence. Years later we met again - in the Reserves in Ottawa. Steve Blake - small world. We had the same photos of the 1969 snow sculptures, skating club. Small world to say the least. I no longer have those photos as Lynda took the album home years ago, never to be seen again. I remember one winter standing, waiting outside with the windchill about -50. The school left us standing outside, freezing to death (I was 5!). Teachers had their warm coffees while we froze. That was the day I wore knitted pants. It was the last day I wore knitted pants for the rest of my life. I remember in the fall in the fields getting pulled across the grass, being dragged by the wind while holding onto small parachutes. On those same fields in the winter we'd open our coats for sails and glide across the ice (we fell a lot which probably explains why I am the way I am today!). I miss those innocent days. Our family saw the Guess Who perform and I remember that concert for some reason. Not all, just some. Spear grass - ouch!
Those were the days my friends,
I thought they'd never end.
We'd sing and dance,
forever and a day.....

Who could forget Mandy in the 10th grade?!!

Actually ... I don't remember a Mandy in the 10th grade, but then again I don't remember Anon E. Mouse either!

I plan on being at the Reunion, and challenge the following friends and fellow ShiloBrats from my cohort to step up to the plate and plan a trip down memory lane. It would be great to see you there!

Tom Jenkins, Marilyn Jenkins, Peter Brando, Janice Brando, Fred Baker, Don Lavendar, Tim Keenan, Blake Mooney, Jackie Williams, Sandra Roberts, Nancy Dingle, Ken McLaughlin, Lisa Henderson, Vicki & Leslie Henderson, Dorrie Crawford, Heather MacKnight, Karl & Karen Matthews, Randy Walker, Neville Headley, Chris MacGregor, Shaun Whalen, Ann Cumming, Mark Oullette, Adele McDougall, Tim Nieradka, Rowland Nichol, Karen Hall, Terry Robillard, Terry Ripley, Brian Moss, Helen Clement.

You're out there somewhere guys & gals ... take the plunge. Could be the last chance for this to happen ... I was disappointed when the 2007 Reunion didn't quite come together.

Hmmmnnnnn. A trip down to Vegas. Maybe one to Europe. These sound quite glamorous, but they are missing something very important...a connection to your past. How old are you now? 60....65? Do you think your friends will last forever? How important is your past? If you answer "not very" then I guess we don't need to see you. If you answered "very", what are you waiting for? Don't sit on the fence waiting to see who is going to come. Trust me....if you wait for others to sign up, nothing will happen. Be determined that you will be there to spread joy and rememberance and forget about Mandy in the 10th grade. If you come, maybe she will too.

Ahhh.. Valentine’s Day… “I shot an arrow into the air”

Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance.

Edie’s February ShiloBrat News is now up on Sixties ShiloBrats and features some of the Shilo sweethearts who married and where they are today.

There were many Shilo sweethearts who married, acknowledge them with a dedication in the Guestbook as we follow the arrow to Valentine’s Day.

Thanks again for your responses last month to the Name Game contest. There were 3 correct guesses of Glen McLean for January, two from previous winners, and the new monthly winner is Ron Flamand, nice going Ron. Edie thought this was going to be a tough one, looks like she was right.

Edie is away on her sojourn to Africa for the next month and has the coming Name Game entries prepared. They do look tougher, so for a little twist, multiple names and themes to guess will add to the fun. Any correct guess is a winner, most correct guesses will be the monthly winner. Good luck!

Thanks Bob, happy you found us, there is a team of very talented and dedicated brats here behind the wheel. Photos and info from that time are going to be rare these days, so anything your family and anyone else can come up with will be very much appreciated. Thank you.
