Comments: Terry and Ron, did you take pictures! Check out the new cover photo for Shilobrat Reunions.
There are no major Shilo reunions in the works that we are aware of, which makes these one on one and mini-reunions all that more valuable. Untill another major reunion comes along, this is all we will have and is hopefully inspirational for others to do the same…and send us photos!
The Ottawa and Kingston brats have been doing this for years and were always jabbing the B.C. brats (there are so many of us) for not doing the same, and although it took one of them (Faye) to instigate it, the B.C. Mini-Reunion set a new standard, and challenges the Alberta brats to do the same. (Don’t you have that Stampede spirit that likes to do everything bigger and better)
If you have re-united with friends or classmates from Shilo (any time frame) and have photos of it, a new album will be started in the Gallery featuring these rendezvous. Send them to the ShiloBrats Gallery Email listed in What’s New and include a story of who, when, where etc
Comments: On Easter sunday I went to Edmonton and met with Ron Flamand. We had a great visit, all be it to short. We were in Shilo in 64 to 66, along with a great many of you. We spoke about the possibility of a gathering of the Alberta Shilo Brats for next year. Any others around the globe would of course be welcome. Is there any interest out there, or is the reunion team planning one more attempt at a general reunion in Shilo in the near future?
Comments: Heck, Steve, evenn when I was in Shilo, I thought it was the Gradwell's. Did you ever use the horses. I never noticed them being used. From your neighbour, From the Past + In the Present Marlene
Comments: The horses you are talking about belonged to my dad Art Hull .we kept them just beside the pig farm before moving down the road across from the Gradwells
Comments: I remember sleigh rides in the Forest Reserve in the winter, too--at least one was a birthday party, but I don't remember if it was Vicky Davis's birthday or Mark Roberts's. There was a David McCabe who was my classmate in Miss Rankin's Grade 3 class at D5 in 1963-64. I wonder if he belonged to the ranch family. Anyone remember Della Rankin? Maybe my favorite teacher ever--she let us make butter and cheese, and took us on nature walks, and was a wonderful artist.
Comments: Sorry for the mistypes as I know not how to type. Just scrolled back + noted that Ray mentioned the 60s era. Am I really that old?????? Wot Happened???????
Comments: Hello, Ray! Hope you are well. Yes, thanks - it was the Gradwell's horses. I had made attempts to get my brain synapses to fire in that memory department but they failed me!!!!! I could only come up with the G initial but not the rest of the name. Are you still working or did you retire yet. I think you have been working in "the field" longer than I. Heard David Johnson + some other settled in the Ponoka area but not sure how valid the info is. To some others. Naturally, I remember the McCabe ranch well. Perhaps few remember Roy, the elderly man that worked there. He was one of my favorite guys there, I don't think many knew him that well. He did his work well, was quiet. Many thought he was a grouch but he was very kind to me. David McCabe last I heard (talked to him) - was doing very well, lived in the interior of B.C., very happily married and very content with life. Tickled with having a baby!!! Heloo, Cindy, I remember you as well, You had some siblings if I recall + were perhaps 2 years younger than me (maybe a bit more). Ches Sheppard + I remain close friends. Though We have aged, Ches has changed very little in appearance. He just laughs when I pretend to be angry with him b/c he hasn't changed much. So many names, so many memories. It's good we have this site. Cheers to Otterkins (David) for commencing it + cheers to those who are now maintaining it. Cindy, I did post a pictures of myself and my youngest son when he was deployed to Afghanistan in Feb of this year. So, that's how I basically look now. Funny, spent so many years running away from the military + then my youngest joins it - without even being aware I was a "brat". All my uncle's on my father's side served. Be safe Marlene

Comments: The horses by the gate belonged to Gradwells. They used to let my sisters & myself ride them. Barney Gradwell worked for the Shilo fire department. His son's, Jim & Don (Sam) are well known to Shilo people from the '60's era. Great old memories!
