There is a German tank parked across from the CANEX near the Canoe memorial and Gazebo right on Royal Ave. There was also one at the south (new) gate but when German military left, it was moved to Range Control. This fall it was started up and driven away by RCA Museum staff and I assume it resides now with the Museum vehicle collection.

Al is right. Initially there was a Sherman in Gunner Park that was later replaced by a Leopard A1 when the Germans moved in. I'm not complaining...I'm just wondering what happenened to that relic....shot up on the ranges for target practice? Near the front gate in the field next to the Sargeant's Mess was a very rare Sturmgeschutz Mk.IV in relatively good condition. What happenened to that? Across from the old Officer's Mess (now the museum)was a Jagdpanzer Mk. IV...another very rare vehicle. What happened to that? If we don't remember these things and bring them out...who replaces history?

On Landmarks there is a picture (recent) of a modern German Tank left there after their return. It isn't a Sherman .. Maybe someone could fix it.
Back in the day there were a number of captured German war machines out front but were removed to the Museum out of respect for the German Army when they came to Shilo in the sixties.

Back again; after looking through the pages I have a question. The name and picture of Wayne Beazley has me thinking. I earlier mentioned a Gillis that lived in 103 Royal may have been a cousin of a driend in Halifax but now I think it is Wayne Beazley. Does any one know where Wayne lived in Shilo? Also, I can also remember (from pictures)a lady that also lived in 103 Royal whose name was Lil. As my 63 year old brain lets out a few more details, I will probably have more info or questions.

Just stopped by to see what was new and took some time to look through the "landmark" album again. Made me smile, as always.

I tried to use this page earlier but it didn't work for me. I just signed up on this site yesterday. I lived in Shilo from 1950/52 until the summer of 1957. We lived at 105 Royal but it does not look anything like I remember when I saw the photo in the gallery. Also, I remember living near the corner of Ubique but when I google the address, it shows further north. I remember the H huts were across the street from us in the camp part. Is there a good street map of Shilo available? I also remember a murder took place not long after we moved there, across Royal in the area near the H huts near a garbage shed. There are so many other questions but I will save them for another time.
