Comments: Mid-Vancouver Island mini-reunion this coming Sunday August 19, 2012
Place: Miller’s Landing Pub & Bistro (beside the Departure Bay Ferry Terminal) in Nanaimo (you don’t have to drink) Sunday, August 19, noon to 4pm (whenever you can come) all Shilobrats are welcome, whatever generation, we all have a unique bond.
My sister Deb and I spent the afternoon yesterday with Theresa Poirier and Andy Turner in Nanaimo, (we lived on the same block on Esquimalt Cr. beside PEHS, late 50's, early 60's) had a great time, caught up with how young we still really are and how vivid and in tact the memories from that special place follow us forever. Theresa is visiting friends in Nanoose Bay, which is closer to Nanaimo and closer for visitors from Victoria.
We chose a casual, easy to get to setting for a gathering, with an early time for everyone to get home from where they came, at a reasonable time. Barb Willerton replied that she can come if it is early (has dinner plans with friends that evening) Would be great to have the gang from Victoria here, hope some or all of you can make it. Vancouver Island is also a special place (as we know) and love to make our visitors feel the same.
Wayne Helgason has suggested doing a car pool (or two) from Victoria, great idea for getting everyone together. Anyone interested please email me (or be spontaneous and just show up) and will keep you posted.

Comments: Had good time chatting and visiting with some friends from Shilo ( I think there were 12 of use in total). It was great being able to have such a great visit with some people who I have not seen for close to 40 years . Thanks to Donna for hosting, and thanks to everyone else who was there it brings back fond memories chatting with you all.

Comments: ShiloBrats: mid Vancouver Island
Theresa Poirier is in Parksville this week on a family visit and hoping for a rendezvous with any Shilobrats on Vancouver Island. Looking to put something together for a mini-reunion on Sunday August 19th
On the North Island / Nanaimo / Parksville / Comox area (that we know of) are Ken & Deb Jenkins, Barb Willerton, Alan Stickley, Andy Turner, also in the Comox area, Gary Kremsater, Jamie Chartrand, maybe Denise Bekkema & anyone we don’t know of?
Mini-reunions are a great way to bridge the gap between major reunions, if they can ever happen again? and it is not a long stretch for Victoria Shilobrats to join in.
Proposal: Boston Pizza, Parksville, Sunday 19th (time to be determined) Who’s in?

Comments: A ShiloBrat Tribute: Angela Chalmers (for those not on Facebook)
This week 20 years ago ShiloBornBrat Angela Chalmers won a Bronze medal in the women’s 3000m at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympic Games. (Insert from 1979 PEHS yearbook)
Born in Brandon, Manitoba September 6, 1963. Even as a child on a military base in Shilo, Manitoba she enjoyed participating in sports days and running events. At 11 she knew she wanted to run in the Olympic Games. When the e family relocated to British Columbia she began running at school track meets and then at a club which saw her traveling to competitions throughout the Province and even into the U.S. At 13 she was back in Manitoba and competing in national events as National Junior Champion competing with youth of 18 years of age. While attending Northern Arizona University in the U.S.A. Angela was 8 time All American in track and cross—country running. In 1990 she competed in the Commonwealth games and won double gold, the first ever to win both the 1,500 and the 3,000 m events. That year the Manitoba Sports Writers named her “Athlete of the Year’ and she also picked up the national Phil Edwards Trophy as outstanding Track Athlete. In 1992 she attained her dream of running in the Olympics winning a bronze medal in the 3,000 m event in Barcelona, Spain. She says one of her proudest moments was when she led the Canadian tem into the Centennial Stadium, Victoria British Columbia. That same yeas Angela, now sporting the Sioux name ”Walks Fast Woman” won an Aboriginal Achievement Award. In 2001 Angela was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame
A new album ShiloBrat Scrapbook: Angela Chalmers has been added to the Gallery.
