Happy New Year to all my fellow Shilobrats. Bump, I must say you've made some interesting posts this past year that stirred up memories for lots of brats who haven't posted for awhile. And I enjoy seeing Ken's Christmas pictures of Shilo each year. It reminded me of when my father and a few friends used to go out into the Sprucewoods somewhere and bring home a tree for everyone He spent a whole day putting it up with the little 3-legged adjustable watering can which was never steady. Then he tied some strings to the center of the tree and nailed 1 string to one wall and the other string to the adjoining wall, so the tree was in the corner. Then he had another drink and untangled the Christmas lights and replaced the burnt-out ones so the string would light. Another drink. Then selected the intact ornaments and placed them, then unrolled the garlands and draped them around the front 2/3 of the tree. Then we helped him put the icicles all over the tree. We tried to remember to water it for the next 2 weeks. And the tree was always a bit lopsided. This Christmas I brought out the ceramic tree, plugged the base in, and it was done in 30 seconds. Six days later it was back in the little square box for the next year. My kid put up one of those folding pre-lit trees elsewhere in the house, took 30 minutes. I lit one of those pine-scented candles, and a modern Christmas was underway. While it's easier today, it's nice to remember past Christmases. :!drink: :!giggle: :!inlove:

I guess our family spent a total of seven Christmas's in Shilo on Frontenac, on Quebec and "outside the gate" in Sprucewoods. They were wonderful. I wish all shilobrats a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous new year. Nobody has come forward yet to work on a 2017 reunion, but... there's still time! Make it a New Years resolution to help bring Shilobrats together one more time. :!drink: :!clap:

It is that time of the year that I often think of the days in Shilo and my friends. A time of great memories and very little worries.
And this is what I wish for every one in the New Year.
Be Safe.
Cheers

Sorry you use a lot of bandwidth/page length, but this is a poem that our eldest daughter sent over today. I don't know who is author, or when it was written, but this is probably one of the best places it could be posted.

Our elder son-in-law is Capt Brendan Clancy, now attached to the Battle School and still a full time firefighter in Saskatoon. Their two boys, Hudson (4 1/2) and Kenton (2 1/2) are growing like weeds and are with us several days a week while Mom teaches preschool and music. Our baby (Dr. Meghan Clark) just had a baby (her first) Adisson Alexia three months ago, so life here is pretty good.

A very Merry Christmas to all brats and families, and our best wishes in the New Year.

I will have to post the poem on another entry, as it takes the post over the allowable limit

Hi Rick
The Martims were long time Shilo. Early like us but we left in say '60.
they lived across the street and a few houses down from us. We were #7 Ubique. The Whitimgs were probably there and then gone before you then. Or possibly relocated to other PMQ in Camp. ...That memory escapes me. ....They were very good Ubique friends. We were in Shilo from beginning and started in H hut lodgings and then were in a small PMQ across Camp and moved to Uboqie soon as larger homes were built. I hung out with the Martin boys. The Finlays and had other friends on different streets. Kids from school. Chris Evoy was one name comes to mind. Some French family kids were friends. Not on my street. Their names escape me now. Of course we had chums from all over Camp. Some friends were out on the economy from farms around Camp. Friends in Doiglas as well as Nrandon and around. ...Carberry and so on.
