A little something to make you all smile.

"CIVILIAN FRIENDS VS MILITARY FRIENDS"

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Get upset if you're too busy to talk to them for a week.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Are glad to see you after years, and will happily carry on the same conversation you were having last time.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Never ask for food.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Are the reason you have no food.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Call your parents Mr. and Mrs.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Call your parents Mum and Dad.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Bail you out of jail and tell you what you did was wrong.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Would be sitting next to you saying, "Damn...we screwed up...but man that was fun!"

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Have never seen you cry.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Cry with you.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Borrow your stuff for a few days then give it back.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Keep your stuff so long they forget it's yours.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Know a few things about you.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Could write a book with direct quotes from you.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will leave you behind if that's what the crowd is doing.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will kick the whole crowds' ass that left you behind.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Would knock on your door.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Walk right in and say, "I'm home!"

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Are for awhile.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Are for life.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Have shared a few experiences...
MILITARY FRIENDS: Have shared a lifetime of experiences no Civilian could ever dream of...

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: will take your drink away when they think you've had enough.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will look at you stumbling all over the place and say, "You better drink the rest of that, you know we don't waste...that's alcohol abuse!!" Then carry you home safely and put you to bed...

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will talk c*** to the person who talks c*** about you.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will knock them the hell out for using your name in vain.

CIVILIAN FRIENDS: Will ignore this.
MILITARY FRIENDS: Will forward this.

Hey brats, is this "Shilo's Days of Our Lives". I remember Porky, not sure where the name came from, perhaps a misnomer, but people really liked him, he was always easygoing even about his nickname. I was born in Shilo so I guess that beats just about everyone except I think, what's his name from the Saints, Bruce Howie? Could be wrong. Anyway still an army brat, some things you just can't shake. Not sure yet about the reunion, maybe at the last minute although get back from Toronna 3rd week of July. And then's there's 2008 if we're not reunioned out from this year? Shilo will always be home....oh, need to add my last name to my username, Laurie Marsden y'all.

Dave, never considered myself an "outsider" but call it as you wish. Lived in Shilo from 1961-1973. Gary and I lived down the road from one another and hung out when we could. Althiugh, he would never say anything about being referred to as a large cartton character, I knew that he liked when I called him Gary. Hopefully, he is CEO of some conglomerate and wonder who calls him "Porky" I dated the star quarterback, got rescued from more scrapes than I care to remember by Jim Simmons. Was later married in St. Barbara's church and my reception was sponsored by Gord McGonigle at the country club. So, if that makes me an "outsider" I still have many fond memories of my Shilo experience.

Hello all you brats out there!!!

Some time ago now Faye sent out a requestion for donations to keep this web site going. So far donations have been slow to come in.

SO I AM REMINDING YOU TO GET YOUR DONATION IN IF YOU WANT THIS WEB SITE TO KEEP GOING. SEND YOU DONATION THE FOLLOWING WAY.

As many of you know,
san exclusive Ottawa Royal Bank account was set up in 2002. The account number is #5039664, transit #00084, and you can make your donation at any time directly into this account, which will only be accessed to deposit contributions, and to pay the site maintenance costs. (yes, I know it is in my name, but that is because they won’t let us name the account Shilobrats unless we register ourselves as an organization; so you have to make out the cheque to Faye Linseman, but feel free to inscribe Shilobrats in the memo line, deposit it at your closet Royal branch, and if you want a receipt, I will give one to you electronically. Please note some branches prefer to deposit cash rather than cheques to a third party account; don’t ask me why.) If you prefer to mail a cheque (and it seems easier that way), my address is 10 Northgate Street, Ottawa Ontario K2G6C7. I will be happy to deposit it for you and acknowledge the deposit by email.

Any questions feel free to email me at FayeLinseman@rogers.com.
Your Shilo friend,
Faye Helgason ‘69

We need donations from all age groups to keep the site going.

Bill

Roberta, we knew his name well. "Porky" was not a name of derision, but one of affection and he gladly accepted it. He was a very gentle man with a big heart. He was well liked and it was an honour to be considered his friend. You could not have asked for a better one. Outsiders called him Gary. We called him Porky, and I'm quite certain that when we meet him again that he will insist on being addressed by that name. I should know. I accidentally broke his leg pushing him off a hill while tobogganing. Did he get ticked off? Nope. He still called me pal and we dragged him 5 miles over the ranges back to the base hospital.
