Comments: I've noted that a lot of the original PMQ houses are being or have been torn down. Could someone provide me with some information regarding this? I have been told by other sources that asbestos had been found in these units that are being demolished. Is this accurate? I am also very interested in finding out if any previous Shilo residents have been diagnosed with mesothelioma? In addition, if anyone has any info as to whether any houses on Royal Avenue have been torn down, I would appreciate this also.

Comments: Haven't been here in a while. One military word not seen is "hard tack". If you ever attempted to eat one of these, you don't ever forget! Ron
Comments: If anyone is interested in school records the people to call are Jody Mac Donald at the Dept of Education 204 945 - 5310 or Idelle at 204 945-3039.
Comments: I remember sledding somewhere off Royal Ave around Christmas,1956. I lived at 105 Royal. I hit some kind of sewer pipes at the bottom and cracked my ankle. Could have been the same hill; as you say, there were not many hills around. I was an alter boy then and couldn't serve as I had to be carried into the church.
Comments: We live right across from the willows on Royal Ave. Does anyone remember where sometimes we go sleding called Fox Canyan and it really smelled of sewers, but,it had the best hills around being in Shilo. It was the start of Royal Ave cause we lived in 11 and my brother Doug and his buddies used to go after school with their toboggans and sometimes the landing were really rough because they were going or starting up on the culvert and then flying inthe air and thumping down on frozen waste and speeding off with 4 or 5 boys screaming and crying but they were doing it again and again. I'll never forget it because they let me do it , once and that was enough. lol.
Comments: Faye has done it again. Everywhere she goes she draws a crowd…of Shilobrats that is. This time in Victoria. Wayne Helgason is in Victoria visiting his daughter and Faye joined them this week. Thank you to Judy (Hummel) Rioux for making arrangements and contacting everyone she had email addresses for, also to Keith & Gloria Hummel for hosting the after dinner gathering. Also thanks to Mel and Judy for putting me up for the event and the time to catch up. There would have been more brats there, for some, short notice and being mid week, a timing issue. Thanks to all who did attend, including Jeanette Stubbe who came by to say hello to everyone but couldn’t stay.
There weren’t many opportunities for photos, but with 4 cameras, we managed to capture the spirit of the evening and everyone there. A new album of photos has been added in the Gallery to the Western re Unions collection and moved up front for convenience.
If you are meeting with old friends and classmates from your time in Shilo, even one on one, remember to send pictures to ShiloBrats for posting or start your own Gallery album. Cheers!

Comments: Re slang words - for all the former cadets - "spiffies", the wire gizmo used to keep shirt collars nice and tight.
Comments: For those looking to find the Gallery, it is back online again. It apparently developed some code errors that were unrepairable and had to be re-installed as new. The photos have been transferred from the previous Gallery, they cling to their original disc titles which hardly resemble English and arrange themselves like little brats being difficult to manage. The titles are being translated back to English and the copy that accompanied each photo is in a separate file and has to be manually transferred back to each photo. This will all have to be redone bit by bit as we have time.
If you have an album posted in the Gallery, you will need to register again, and have your registration transferred to ownership of your album to be able to access or edit your photos. You may want to re-arrange their order and add or remove photos, titles or copy. It would help a lot if you would do that…please…pretty please.
It will require patience and a lot of tedious work over time but will be restored.
The Shilo Stag have now posted their Jan 20 and Feb 3 issues in Links and feature a fascinating review of Shilo 2010.
And for army words, a lot of you were cadets, how could you forget spit n’ polish and putties.
