2005 The Year of the Veteran

On November 11 Canadians wear poppies and gather at war memorials across Canada to pay tribute to those who died in war. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the time the Armistice of World War I was signed in 1918, we observe two minutes of silence to remember.
The Government of Canada declared 2005 the Year of the Veteran. It was Canada's year-long expression of thanks to war service Veterans and Veterans of the Canadian Forces.
Shilobrats Zoe Fowler, Faye Helgason and Edith Walker were part of the throng that gathered on Parliment Hill in Ottawa on November 11th, 2005 and, at the end of the ceremonies, placed their poppies amongst the hundreds strewn on, and around, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
